Fact checking policy

An informational site is only as useful as its facts. This page describes how claims on AlaskanCruises.us are verified, how often they are rechecked and what to do if you find one that is wrong.

Source hierarchy

We verify claims against sources in this order of preference:

1. Primary official sources: the National Park Service, port authorities, government agencies and cruise line published documentation.
2. Direct observation: our writers' own notes from sailing the itineraries and working the ports.
3. Direct contact with operators: excursion companies, terminals and local businesses we speak to during seasonal rechecks.
4. Reputable secondary reporting, used to corroborate rather than originate.

We do not source factual claims from forums, social media or other travel blogs.

What gets checked, and when

• Before publication: every factual claim on pages that recommend, rank or price is verified by a second person.
• Before each season: price bands, itineraries, ship deployments, excursion offerings and operational details such as tunnel schedules and tender arrangements.
• Annually at minimum: every editorial page, whether or not it contains seasonal content.
• Immediately: anything a reader reports as wrong.

How prices are handled

Prices are published as ranges, labelled as planning figures rather than quotes, and dated by the page's visible review date. Where a price is inherently volatile, we describe how it moves rather than pinning a number. We never present a strike through or discount claim as evidence of value.

Known limits

Ship deployments are announced up to two years ahead and change. Excursion operators alter offerings between seasons. Wildlife does what it likes. We flag these uncertainties in the text rather than writing around them, and pages carry standing caveats where a fact is structurally unstable.

Reporting an error

Write to editors@alaskancruises.us with the page address and the claim in question. Error reports are read first, ahead of all other correspondence, and corrections are made as soon as the correct fact is verified. Materially significant corrections are noted on the page.
